I owe you who watch me an explanation.
I'm sorry I have not been very active these last few months. Real life, as they say, is catching up with me. I have barely had a chance to Vue and on the rare occasion that I do have a chance I can never get the scene good enough to release. Fractals have been suffering as well, although I have done one or two, but these have suffered from a different set of issues.
Work is hotting up. I'm trying to take on further responsibilities but I don't know how much this is being noticed. I've also started to not do quite so long shifts, instead coming home at a reasonable hour so I don't burn out again. The real eater of my time is - I'm getting married in September.
I can't recall how many details of this relationship I have released here, but my partner Zommael
and I met through a book series called The Wheel of Time
, by Robert Jordan. As such there will be Wheel of Time
elements woven through our wedding and reception. One of those is costumes.
Yes, we're forcing our guests to wear costumes.
Barely anyone in my family has read WoT and I don't think any of those few that have possess a sound knowledge of the various national dress styles available in WoT. As such, I've been working on little dolls, for want of a better word, of the national dress of most of the nations, to put in a little booklet to go out with the invitations.
The costumes go from the simple and tame (Saldaean female):
to the insufficiently described (Far Madding male):
to the potentially embarrassing (Ebou Dari male):
A fair bit of time has also been spent working out simple patterns for each outfit and working with guests if they need help. (We haven't even got the invites out yet...)
From now on - basically from this weekend, the Easter weekend - I am going to be sewing pretty much whenever I have a moment to spare. Of course not all our guests can sew, so we have a pool of labour to sew for those that can't. I've managed to volunteer myself to make the best man's outfit (he's also our housemate and best friend), my father's outfit, my grandfather's outfit, and of course my fiance's outfit. The fabric for the best man and the fiance arrived a couple days ago so first up I will be making working tailors for the best man's shirt and pants, as the pattern appears to made for exceptionally tiny humans and both my boys are not small. While I am making those, the silks for the boys' coats will be chosen and ordered. I've still got to harass my mother into measuring up my father (they are divorced, so it will be a uniquely awkward event.)
Thank god my mother is making The Dress. (And her outfit, and her partner's outfit, and my grandmother's outfit...)
Yes, there will be photos, I promise. There might even be construction photos, if I remember. (Some embroidery will be involved on the boys' outfits and my grandfather's tabard and cloak, so we might just be in luck...)
I didn't sleep last night (was playing the Easter Bilby at work) so I have kind of run out of writing puff but I will update with more info later. Mind you, given my track record with updating, I I don't know how much you should trust me on that.
